12 Hour Summerfest

Posted on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 7:59 am

Get set for “all day and into the night” fun with a full range of recreation, food vendors, shopping specials, kids events, and music! On Saturday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. the Callao Volunteer Fire Department is hosting the SUMMERFEST CELEBRATION, as part of its annual fundraising activities. In support of the event, the Northumberland Highway corridor will be lined with American flags sponsored by the Callao Hometown Community Association.
Atlantic Broadband is sponsoring the state-of-the-art “Walking Tall Monster Truck” from Tappahannock for a display that will dazzle fans and put a smile on the faces of everyone in the community. It will be complemented with a car, truck, tractor and big rig show of souped-up vehicles new and old.
There will be an all day “Shop Callao” with local businesses offering firecracker sales, drawings, and other specials. A multitude of vendors will offer a wide range of hand-made crafts & art, flea market goods, fresh vegetable and fruits, and delicious food.
Prizes will be awarded after the parade for the best patriotic decorated bicycle or wagon; while the Fun Zone will offer a variety of good old summertime games for the entire family. And music…all day long starting at noon and culminating with an evening under the stars to dance to
The Janitors—one of Virginia’s most sought after East coast bands—is based in Virginia Beach. The Janitors put on an energetic and entertaining performance that is second to none… they are more than a band, they are a show! Their blend of oldies, rhythm and blues, classic rock, 60’s soul, 70’s funk, disco, and Cajun will keep everyone dancing into the night!
For easy entry and re-entry, get wristband tickets at the entrance to the Ruritan lot on the right about a half mile down Harryhogan Road (# 712) which intersects #360 at the light in Callao.
According to Todd VanLandingham, President, Callao Volunteer Fire Department, “This is major fundraiser for us, but more than that, we hope it is an event where family, friends and visitors can enjoy some summertime fun together while supporting the Fire Department.”
