With a vacancy about to occur on the region’s circuit court bench the Northern Neck Bar Association met in Heathsville Wednesday night to decide who it wants appointed to fill the slot.
When the association’s president, Diana Risavi, called the meeting to order, Northumberland County Commonwealths Attorney nominated Michael R. McKenny for the circuit court judgeship.
McKenney, who has served as the area’s juvenile and domestic relations district court judge since 2009, is a native of Northumberland County, Wrightson pointed out. “I haven’t talked to anyone who doesn’t think he’d make a great judge,” she said.
C. Marshall Davison of Westmoreland seconded the nomination.
The assembled lawyers voted and counted proxies that lawyers who couldn’t attend had sent.  Somebody called for McKenney to be nominated by acclimation.
“That’s not necessary,” Risavi said. “The vote was unanimous.”
