Posted on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 9:50 am

The Northern Neck is home to many creative and spiritual people who own and operate businesses. On Saturday, November 14, another venture into serving the community with this special brand of enthusiasm held its Open House in Burgess.  The 517 Upcycles and Cupcakes Bakery will be offering more than just cupcakes by owner and operator Bernadette Deveroix-Fox.  Deveroix-Fox has won numerous awards for her specialty cakes, three of which are showcased in her bakery.
Cooking lessons are in the works for interested parties, with emphasis on made- from-scratch baked goods and entrees, with vegetarian options available.  Deveroix-Fox will be introducing her “Young Mary Magdalene Project” (Y.M.M.P.) for teenage girls, with a focus on equipping young minds through character transformation.  Her plans to teach life skills to young women hold a distinct and special place in her heart.
“I have a calling to work with young women, help them with life skills and to teach them to have pride in themselves,” Deveroix-Fox said.  “My childhood was filled with physical and emotional abuse, it made me who I am today, and I am bound by those memories to help young women learn to take care of themselves.”
