Heathsville eatery to possibly return this month
The restaurant at Rice Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville is about to re-open.
While the Hotel/Tavern’s board had been selective about who it would allow to operate on the premises, the member settled on Lee Arnest of Westmoreland County.
The Hotel/Tavern board’s president, Judy Mooers, said Friday that she had known Arnest for quite a while and knew how good a chef he was. She thought he would be a good fit at the Tavern. After she sent Arnest a copy of a story in the Echo about how the Board was looking hard for a restaurateur, he got in touch. By early December, a deal was in place.
Mooers and Arnest said they couldn’t put a precise date on the restaurant’s opening because “We don’t know how long it will take to get the regulatory stuff done.”
Both, however, hope the restaurant will be up and running before the end of January.
Arnest, who has been in the restaurant and catering business one way or another for most of his adult life…
