‘Obamacare’ in Northumberland

Although the date for obtaining health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, effective as of Jan. 1, is past, that was not a deadline for signing up for the insurance.
Laurie Morrissette of Northumberland County, who has been active in trying to help people deal with the act that is also called “Obamacare,” said on Sunday that the open season lasts until March 31.
She and the volunteers that she recruited will be available to guide people through the process once she is able to locate a non-profit organization that will sponsor them and afford them working space. Those are requirements of the act, she noted.
Morrissette said she had been in touch with William Botts in Fredericksburg. Botts is one of 18 “navigators” employed to guide people in selecting health care under the act. Botts covers 16 Virginia jurisdictions, including the counties of the Northern Neck.
He told Morrissette that he has helped 300 people so far, including a few from Westmoreland and Richmond counties but none from Northumberland…
