At Northumberland High School, the camera focuses in on students Kyle Hanks and Zachary Hamilton seated at a table against a painted green screen. “Good morning NMS!” Hanks chimes in. “I’m Kyle here with your announcements.”
“And I’m Zach here with your sports!” Hamilton says before they launch into announcements.

What is now a class in its fifth year of involving students in the aspects of producing a TV show began with Channel 2 Teacher Jani Kirkwood’s decision 18 years ago to borrow a camera from the school board and film morning announcements in her class.
“I just started in the room and then the kid would make props and we’d do silly stuff and we’d do the announcements every morning. They’d have to run to the library and put it in to show it to the school,” said Kirkwood.
