A sweet gesture from the Ruritans
Some Callao Ruritan members were in Callao Super Market on Saturday afternoon to pick up fruit baskets to deliver to shut-ins. Left to right are Betty Spina, Jack Spina, Howard Nash, James Harper and Alice Swann. Other members would be picking up baskets later.
The Callao Ruritan Club delivered their annual fruit baskets a little later this year. Originally, in past years, the Ruritans had Callao Super Market fix fancy fruit baskets for Christmas time giving, but then found out that people were getting so many Christmas baskets of food and fruit at the same time they couldn’t consume them all in such a short time.
The Ruritans decided to change their delivery time and give fruit baskets out the last of January when Christmas time goodies were gone. People could then take their time and enjoy eating the fruit at their own pace without having it spoil.
This year, Old Man Winter played tricks on the South and the Callao Ruritan Club had to delay their delivery of 13 Fruit Baskets. Even if they are later this year, the hope is that baskets will dispel the gloomy days and people can enjoy the fruit as they curl up with a good book by their fireside.
