Musical talents of youth to be showcased at winter concert
Part of the mission of the Northern Neck Orchestra is to encourage the development of talented music students through mentoring and performance opportunities. On Feb. 23, in a concert celebrating “Youthful Gifts,” the spotlight will be on three young performers and on the works of great composers whose musical gifts were also apparent in their youth. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at Northumberland High School.
The program will include Mozart’s Exultate, Jubilate, which he wrote at the tender age of sixteen and Symphony No. 2 in D major by Ludwig van Beethoven. It was composed when he was only 32 years old and facing the fact that he would be totally deaf within the year.
The featured young musical artists include Rachel Bradley, a 15-year old resident of Tabb in York County, who is a soprano hoping to study voice at Julliard; Caroline Haines, 16 years old, of Rockville, VA, who plays the harp; and violist Bryan Williams of Newport News.
