State to allow Sunday Hunting under certain circumstances
While the 2014 Virginia General Assembly adjourned last week without a set budget and will return March 24 to address the issue that has divided the Senate and House of Delegates—the expansion of Medicaid — Governor Terry McAuliffe has signed off on a bill that will legalize Sunday hunting under certain circumstances throughout the state as of July 1, 2014.
House Bill (HB) 1237 passed the House 71-27 and the Senate 28-11 before it was approved by McAuliffe on March 5.
Northumberland County’s representatives in the House and Senate, Del. Margaret Ransone (R-99th) and Sen. Ryan McDougle R-4th), voted against the bill, citing concerns with people no longer having one day a week to go out onto their property and enjoy other outdoor activities without worrying about hunting in the area.
