Local wrestlers have success in major tournaments
Six members of the Northern Neck Wrestling Club participated in two separate tournaments this past weekend with good results.
Caleb Davis went to Maryland to compete in the 2013 Mason Dixon Challenge. Davis finished second in his weight division.
At the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association Preliminary District Tournament, two high school students compete in the Elite Division while three adults wrestled in the Open Division.
Of those adults, Aaron McIlwee took third in the 115-pound weight class. The others, including Ben Lane at 142 pounds, did not place.
Kevin Hanks took third among the high school wrestlers in the 145-pound weight class and will advance to the Southern Regional Tournament April 12-13 at Salisbury, Maryland. Philip Harrison placed fifth in the 189-pound class. Both wrestlers from the Northern Neck Wrestling Club were the only two from 1A sized schools.
