Ranson Contractors in Lottsburg of Northumberland County celebrates 60 years of serving Northern Neck communities

Ranson Contractors has been in business for 60 years this summer. Earl Ranson started the business with his brother, Theodore serving Eastern Virginia in 1954. His son, Mark Ranson started working with him while he attended Benedictine Military Institute in Richmond, then worked full time afterward. He did take a couple of semesters off while he attended college, only to find out his first love was in building and repairing things. Mark might have recognized his preferences when he was a young child and was happy building tree houses, dog houses and floating rafts for the river.
In 1985 father and son went into business together. For years the Ranson family had frequently visited the Northern Neck and made it their summer retreat, so it was no hard decision to move the business to the Northern Neck in 1986.
Earl Ranson retired in 1993 and Mark took over as owner-operator. Some years later, Earl Ranson died and Mark was on his own.
Ranson Contractors specializes in roofing and complete home improvements, and is a signature Select Installer. Ranson said his company uses Atlas Pristine High Performance Architectural Shingles. They combine long-term appearance with their scotchgard protector an lasting performance with a lifetime warranty plus a 130 mph wind rating.
Today the company does not only roofing, but windows, siding, garages, decks and marine construction.
Mark has two sons, Joshua, a NHS graduate, now in his third year at college at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah,GA on an art scholarship and Mark, Jr., 14, who will be a student…
