Missoula Children’s Theatre at Westmoreland Players Theater near Callao

Pirates, mermaids, sailors, beach bums, sea creatures, crabs, crocodiles and parrots took over the stage at The Westmoreland Players Theater on Saturday. Under the leadership of two Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) representatives, 51 children ages 5 to 18 years old put on two performances of “Blackbeard the Pirate” for friends and family. From try-outs on Monday until showtime, the young actors and actresses had one week to practice for the hour-long performances that afternoon. They dazzled the audience with songs, dance and humorous dialogue while relating a tale of pirates and buried treasure.
For the past nine years, MCT which is based in Montana, has been coming to the Northern Neck for the week long drama camp. Never the same team, Cody Freeman from Indiana and Emilie LaBonte from Minnesota were here to direct and produce this year’s play.
