The community of Northumberland County and those that passed through a couple of weekends ago probably discovered one of the biggest fans of the Baltimore Ravens—at least in the Northern Neck.
If people didn’t know who he or the team was, they found out a bit more after the Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII this past weekend 34-31 over the San Francisco 49ers.
Shad Johnson, owner of Mighty Sharp Barbershop in Callao and hair barber, wasn’t far off when he predicted the score Saturday before the game. His prediction was a solid 31-27 in favor of his hometown team.
“I’ve been a fan since 1996 when football returned to Baltimore,” said Johnson. “I was a San Francisco fan before, but I had to keep my loyalty at home.”
Johnson is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He’s been living in the area for about four years.
This past weekend, Johnson thought it would be a good idea to take his blow up Baltimore Ravens football player named Bubba Ray to work. As a result, cars would stop to see or take a photo with it. Originally Bubba Ray would be stationed outside of his home.
“It [the season] was a nail biter because they were so up and down…but as a fan you have go to stay positive,” Johnson said.
But Johnson said after watching the Ravens win in double overtime to the Denver Broncos, he knew they had a chance to do something special this year.
En route to be crowned Super Bowl champs, the Ravens finished the regular season as the AFC North Champions, defeated the New England Patriots 28-13, the Indianapolis Colts 24-9, and the Denver Broncos in double overtime 38-35 to advance to the Super Bowl.
