Grapplers, Wrestling Club win big in region contest

Eight wrestlers from the Northern Neck Wrestling Club participated in the Peninsula Youth Wrestling League regional tournament at Gloucester and all won medals. Stephen Scripture was nominated for coach of the year.

The Northern Neck Wrestling Club participated in the Peninsula Youth Wrestling League regional tournament at Gloucester this past Friday and Saturday. Eight wrestlers from the Club participated and all eight won medals.

Tre Booth, Caleb Davis and Sean Taylor each placed first in their weight and age division. Brandon Risk took second with thirds going to Dylan Davis, Joseph Scripture and J.T. Sheridan. Ethan Brown took fourth.

In addition Davis with a record of 20-1 with 17 pins was nominated as a wrestler of the year. Kevin Hanks and Philip Harrison received nominations for referee of the year. Stephen Scripture was nominated for coach of the year. Pam Hanks and Janet Harrison received the 2013 Peninsula Youth League Pat Chall Memorial Award as Outstanding Volunteers of the Year.

The Northern Neck Wrestling Club received the 2013 Norm and Ronnie Thacker Award for introducing kids to the world’s oldest and greatest sport of wrestling. It is awarded each year to the team with the highest percentage of new wrestlers that receive medals. The Club had 100 percent of it’s team members who participated medaling.
