Defending district champs dig for two non-conference wins
Connor Haislip has a laugh with July Traylor during the team’s win over Middlesex last week at Northumberland High School.
The Northumberland volleyball team seemed to silence the early questions coach Bonnie Swann had with two convincing wins this past week. Both came at home with the ladies knocking off West Point and Middlesex days later, each in three sets.
“I was pleased with both games and hope it will continue,” Swann said.
In Tuesday’s game against West Point (25-17, 25-14 and 25-20) Haley Headley had four kills, two service aces and two blocks.
Mary Kathryn Hall had eight kills, and two aces and blocks each followed by Connor Haislip with four kills and 32 digs. Katie Crowther added three kills and three blocks.
Headley led the team in Thursday’s win over Middlesex (25-13, 25-10 and 25-10) with eight kills, two blocks and nine straight service points to open the first game. Hall added six kills, two blocks and two aces. July Traylor had four kills and a block, Hannah Walker had four kills and Crowther chipped in with four kills and three blocks.
“I thought they played exceptionally well. They were on target,” Swann said.
