Northumberland County’s Democrats gathered for a Christmas party at the Women’s Club in Lottsburg last Tuesday. It wasn’t a victory celebration but it felt like one since their last two candidates, Vangie Williams who’d run for Congress this year and Frances Edwards who’d run for the House of Delegates in 2017, were both present and said they were ready to run again.
Williams, who tallied better than 45 per cent of the vote against incumbent congressman Rob Wittman in November, said she simply could not miss the party after all the hard work the Northumberland party had put in for her. Edwards also acknowledged the party’s efforts on his behalf in his campaign against Del. Margaret Ransone. Williams noted that while she is running against Wittman again in 2020, the first priority needs to be Edwards’ campaign against Ransone for the 2019 election.
