After two scrimmages at home, the Northumberland Lady Indians, both varsity and JV, took their act on the road last week to open regular season play.
On Tuesday, they visited West Point, and Thursday were at Middlesex.
The results were a pair of wins for both the JV and varsity.
The varsity team won by the scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-19 at West Point. They topped Middlesex 25-14, 25-17 and 25-11.
JV scores were 25-17 and 25-16 at West Point and 25-13 and 25-16 at Middlesex.
West Point proved to be a better team than in the past several years, giving the Indians a strong match.
Mary Kathryn Hall had eight kills, Haley Headley six and July Traylor three. Jillian Jett had nine digs.
“They were pretty good,” Coach Bonnie Swann said, adding, “We played pretty good. We served well, but at times were not making good passes.”
At Middlesex, Headley had nine kills and Hall eight; both were credited with a block. Rebecca Daniel had three blocks while Jett had eight digs.
For the JV squad, in the first game, Katelyn Ward served the last 13 straight points including five service aces.
