Area Republicans gathered at Cowart’s Seafood plant in Lake Saturday for the Northumberland County Republican’s annual oyster roast.
Ricky and the Republicans, lead by Mike Baughan, had the place rocking to the point people quit shaking hands and started shaking legs. Even so, the steamed oyster tables stayed packed with folks eating bushels of oysters while others outside ate hot dogs, chili, clam chowder and desserts. The wine held up fine but by the time the party ended at 5 “all the hot dogs were gone and only two cups of beer remained,” said Jim Michel who honchoed the event.
Politicians – local, regional and statewide – showed up for the event. Gray Adkins, who is running against Senator Tim Kaine, arrived early and pitched the crowd to support his “Constitutional conservatism.” Adkins said that in today’s political climate, “You’re either pro-American or anti-American.” Congressman Rob Wittman and Delegate Margaret Ransone hurried to the party from the Montross Fall Festival and arrived a bit after 4.
