The Friends of the Northumberland Library will hold a silent auction on Friday, April 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. The auction will feature the paintings of renowned artist Matthew Harwood. All proceeds from the auction will go to Friends of the Library.
Harwood donated the 12 paintings to the Friends. He is a resident artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria where he is also the Public Art Manager for the City of Alexandria. His work appeared in a 2016 solo exhibition at the U.S. Embassy in Rome titled The Art of Prime Numbers.
The Prime Numbers work of art is also included in many private and corporate collections. Mark Leithauser, Chief of design of the National Gallery of Art, has described Leithausers work as “artistry [sprung] from a tradition of architect transformed to painter.” His work has a strong perspective and cleanness of line.
