The halls were filled with kids carrying new backpacks loaded with school supplies as Northumberland Public Schools held their annual Back to School Rally on Saturday, August 25.
Assistant Principal, Martha Hicks, said the whole event was a success. “I think it’s beautiful’” Hicks said. “The kids and the parents are having such a good time. And they got a little bit for everybody.”
Backpacks and school supplies were distributed to the kids from elementary to high school. “All of it’s great, this is what it’s all about, community,” Hicks said. “Schools cannot function without community.” Hicks worked with the school system for 44 years before retiring two years ago. This is her first year back and she will serve as assistant principal. “I feel younger and better than ever,” Hicks said.
