Both the guys baseball and girls softball teams went two wins and a loss last week. The Ladies topped W&L, 4-1; no hit Middlesex 13-0 and lost Thursday here to Rappahannock, 3-0.
The guys lost to W&L, 7-4, beat Middlesex 4-2, and took Rappahannock, 8-7 in an extra inning game here.
The Lady Indians traveled to Montross on Tuesday. Brantly Swift was on the mound, giving up four hits while string out eight. Taylor Bayse went two for three from the plate. At Middlesex, Swift and Bailey Lewis combined for a five inning no hit game. Zoie Sadler had the big bat with four hits in four at bats, two of which were doubles. On Thursday, the defending state champions plated three runs in the fifth and shut out the
Indian’s big bats. Sadler had two hits. Swift stuck out six and gave up no walks.
The JV girls without their starting pitcher lost to Middlesex, 16-0, came close but lost to W&L, and lost to Rappahannock, 21-3.
The baseball team lost at W&L, 7-4. Collin Saunders was two for two, Cole Basye had two RBIs and Blake Edwards a double. They regrouped on Wednesday to top Middlesex, 4-2. Brothers Cole and Nick Basye both had three hits in four at bats, Saunders had two hits including a double. Bowe Rogers pitched, giving up two hits while striking out eight. Thursday in a see-saw battle in which both teams came from behind, David Bradley had a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth for the win. The game featured a solo home run by Collin Saunders and a double from Cole Basye.
The guys JV lost to W&L, 10-7, beat Middlesex 16-6 and lost to Rappahannock 14-4.
