When learning a new game, a big sister is a good thing for a little sister to have. With that in mind, a new Big Sister softball program began April 3 when the Northumberland Middle School Lady Indians hosted the program at the Northumberland Middle School practice field.
Children ages 4 to 10 years old, participated in the two hour session and were paired with a NMS Lady Indians softball player.
The program started with exercises, then each child spent 15 minutes on each station. There were several stations set up, among them: hitting, catching, pop flies, pitching, bunting and agility. At the end of the training, they played a 3-inning scrimage.
The NMS Lady Indians team managers: Chelsey George, Emily Burgess, Ashley Burgess and Taylor Rice put up the stations for special training.
The NMS Lady Indians softball players gave up their afternoon softball practice time to work with the children. The money from entrance fees will help fund the needs of the NMS Lady Indians Softball Team.
More Big Sister programs are planned. If anyone would like more information please contact: Sheila Berman at 804-450-5008
