When Dr. Kathleen Decker decided to retire from medical practice, she immediately took up another cause. Decker became involved in a volunteer organization called Quilts of Valor. She makes quilts and has inspired dozens of other volunteers to join her in an effort to benefit service individuals who have been affected by war.
Catherine Roberts founded the organization in 2003. With her dream of a young man sitting on his bed in combat, disheartened by the agony of war, finding comfort in a quilt that someone gave to him. Since then over 213,000 quilts have been distributed.
