Ellis Bruce Callis Sr., 76, was born on October 12, 1938. He came to accept Jesus Christ as his savior and went home to be with him on August 17, 2015.
Bruce was a very loving and caring man, always willing to give of himself to others. He loved God, his family and his church family. He gave so much of himself to others, touching their lives far more than he knew. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a great father, always sharing his love of nature with his children. He was a Cub Scout leader for a number of years. His spirit lives on in his sons and family.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Virginia Jenkins Callis; by his brother, Gerald Calliec and wife Vivian; by his 3 sons, Ellis Bruce Callis Jr, David Lee Callis and his wife Jan, and William Randolph (Bill) Callis; daughter-in-law Nancy Callis; his granddaughters, Christina Callis (Steven Ayers), Tiffany Callis (Patrick Osen), and Vanessa Callis (David Forbes); grandsons, Justin and Zachary Callis; step-grandson, Shawn Connock (Mel) and step-granddaughters Rachel and Roxanne. He is survived by his great-grandsons, Alexander Harlow and Bentley Forbes and great-granddaughter, Adriana Ayers. He is also survived by many great-stepgrandsons and -stepgranddaughters, many loving nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special, loving and protective companion, his faithful dog Maggie Mae.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Gail Callis Englehart; his mother, Dorothy Callis and his sisters, Doris Ashton and Nancy McCauley. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 21, at 2 p.m. at Menokin Baptist Church, the Rev. Leslie Park officiated. Pallbearers were Larry Wayne Jenkins, Patrick Osen, David Forbes, Lewis Bowen III, Chris Kitch and Zachary O’Bryon.
