It is often said, don’t put your first batter on base, it will come back to haunt you. That seemed to be the case the week prior to spring break in all three of the varsity baseball team wins. Colin Saunders has been the lead-off batter this season for the Indians. In the Middlesex game, Saunders hit a bloop single, he then stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on the next pitch, another passed ball. In the West Point contest, he led off with single, stole both second and third and scored the game’s only run on a sacrifice. In the King William game, he did it all with one pitch. He hit the first pitch for a home run over the left field fence. For the opposition, don’t let Saunders get on base, especially in the first inning.
