Assistant Coach Eddie Barnes stated the cross country team used their first meet against Mathews at Beaverdam Park as another training day with most of their best runners absent. The meet scheduled for here got rained out so it was off Saturday to compete at The Albert Domer Invitational Meet in Newport News.

The guys competed as individuals as they still do not have five competitors to make up a team. The ladies of Northumberland were a surprise to even their coaches with a second place team finish in the C Division. Barnes described getting the girls off the bus to accept their trophy. Running for the Lady Indians were Rain Eguiguren who had an individual fourth place finish with a time of 23:02 in the 5K event. Addie Swisher (23:28) and Savannah Blake (23:32) were top ten finishers, each of the three medaled. Also running were Khadijah Bea (24:54), Ashley Roberts (26:26) and Kendra O’Malley (27:12). “The girls are looking pretty good.” was Barnes assessment.

For the guys, Augie Swisher finished in the top ten to medal with a 19:35 clocking, Zack Moore (20:50) and Denzel Mitchell (2l:51). All three times were personal bests.

Running in the JV race were Zainabu Kangethe (25:57) and Beth Blake (27:02).
