Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville went to the dogs Saturday as May’s farmers market was designated as “dog day.”
RH/HT Executive Director, Corinne Becker said many people brought their canine friends to the market and, while most just walked their pooches around, the Kennel Club was more organized and showed off a number of different dog breeds. Next year, the public will be allowed to show its dogs and tell their stories, Becker noted.
The Animal Shelter had both dogs and cats available for adoption. The dogs, wearing “Adopt me” signs were walked around the market for all to see. Becker said the shelter placed a cat and a kitten about which it was very happy because “felines can be hard to place.” A number of people showed interest in the dogs available for adoption and the folks from the shelter hope some will actually adopt the dogs they looked at after they’ve thought about it over the weekend.
The day was a “little breezy for the vendors,” Becker observed, “but it was perfection for the visitors.”
