In Wednesday’s Battle for the Buoy at Washington and Lee High School, the Eagles once again took the trophy in one of the closest matches in the series, 38-36. Washington and Lee took a 20-0 lead into the 138-pound match. Kevin Hanks took a pin and opened a run for the Indians. Lazareth Tschantre won by forfeit when both teams chose to wrestle up a weight class. At 152 pounds, the Indians’ Aaron Curry pinned his opponent. In the 160-pound class, Noah Kramer fought past a 7-7 deadlock to score a pin. Austin Kent also got a forfeit win at 170. Philip Harrison pinned his opponent and the Indians led 36-20. But Washington and Lee took the next three weight classes by pins to squeeze by Northumberland. The Conference 43 Tournament, originally scheduled for Feb. 8, was cancelled, meaning all wrestlers will automatically advance to the regional event next weekend at Parry McCluer High School.
