The Northumberland Public Library has been awarded a $10,000 grant from River Counties Community Foundation in support of the library’s Learning and Literacy program.

The funding, provided through the Donald W. and Doris B. Lynch Endowment, will allow the library to add to its collection, including books suggested by Northumberland Elementary School teachers.

This is the third year the library has been awarded a foundation grant.

“The thing I love about this year is we were able to collaborate with our Kindergarten through 5th-grade teachers to identify books that support the elementary school curriculum,” said Library Director Cherie Carl.

She said the library also plans to use the funds to add more materials to the Mobile Library-Tech Mobile as well as to purchase Scholastic books that will be given to children who visit the mobile library as it makes stops around the county including Vacation Bible Schools and the new Boys and Girls Club at First Baptist Church, Heathsville.
