Dorian made some bumps in the area high school sports schedules in the eastern part of the state. The football game here against Northampton was moved to Monday, the field hockey contest at Bruton was changed to October, the volleyball game at Mathews was rescheduled to later in the season and the golf match was canceled. But most teams got in a game in the early part of the week.
The field hockey team continues to improve according to Head Coach Mark Fridenstine but is still struggling offensively. On Tuesday Fredericksburg Christian Academy came to Heathsville and went home with a 6-0 victory. The visitors scored three goals in each of the two halves. Fridenstine said “We are improving at advancing the ball up to the forwards” They begin a long set of games on the road. After four games away the varsity returns for a September 19 contest with Warhill and then it’s back on the road for the reminder of the season.
The 2019 Ladies Field Hockey varsity roaster has the following members. Seniors with jersey numbers and positions are #20 Becca Baker (MidField/Goalie), #8 Hannah Hall (MF), #9 Anna Jett (MF), #14 Kendra Jett (Goalie/Defense), and #18 Chloey O’Bier (Forward); juniors are #4 Grace Blair (MF), #13 Jayna Bramblet (MF), #10 Amaya Crabbe (D), #2 Abby Gooch (MF), #11 Savannah Harris (MF), #12 Aariana Hudson (F), #15 Lauren Rahn (MF), #1 Emily Rice (F), and #19 Shelby Smithart (D); #3 Gracie Hall (F) is the lone sophomore. Jyna Brambley, Anna Jett, and Chloey O’Bier are the captains.
The JV traveled Wednesday to Warhill and lost 1-4. Warhill scored a lone goal in the first half and tacked on three more in the second. The JV Indians scored on a break away and power shot by Abby Jennings to the left hand corner of the Warhill net. Christyn Loving had the assist. Coach Mac Magerko said “We played really good in the second half. We challenged them for the ball.”
The 2019 JV field hockey team has the following members with jersey numbers and positions; sophomores #6 Darrah Downing (D/M), #10 Rachel Perez (D/G), #7 Hallie Shackleford (D/M) and #1 Sara Wilson (D/M); freshmen are #9 Emma Dameron (D /M), #3 Abby Jennings (FW/M), #8 Hannah Jett (FW/M), #2 Christyn Loving (FW/M), #12 Corrie Minor (FW/M), #4 Bradi O’Bier (D/M), and #13 Camdin Sisk (FW/M); #11 Nora Bowles (D/M/G) is the lone eighth grader.
The golf team got in a match Monday at the Queenfield Course in King William County with the Cavaliers and Essex. Northumberland finished third with King William taking the win with a 168 team score, Essex shot 181 and the Indians had a 186. They will be at Hobbs Hole Tuesday, and entertain Rappahannock on September twelfth at Indian Creek.
