Farmers market is ‘going to the dogs’

Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 9:32 am

This month’s Heathsville Farmers Market on Saturday, May 20th is “Going to the Dogs!” All canines in the Northern Neck are invited to bring their well-behaved humans.

As part of this “doggie” related theme, the Northern Neck Kennel Club will hold an expo on the grounds behind the Tavern. Local dogs will be put through their paces in a fascinating demonstration of agility and obedience. Other activities will include “meet the breed”, and an obedience demonstration.

The Northumberland Animal Shelter is bringing a variety of dogs available for adoption, and “Canines for Independence” will showcase their latest “dog in training”.

Sponsored by Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville, the Heathsville Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shoppers at the Farmers Market will find farm-fresh local produce, meat and goat cheese, bread and baked goods, oysters in the shell, Whitley’s Peanuts, flowers and nursery plants, jams & jellies, jewelry, handmade soap, and other locally-made handcrafts. A number of vendors specializing in doggie treats and paraphernalia will also be on hand. There are new vendors every month.
