The Richard Henry Lee (RHL) Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (VASSAR) presented the SAR commendation and medal to Phillip H. Dietz of the Callao Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD).
The presentation was made by Charles Belfield, vice president of RHL, at the annual awards banquet at the Callao Fire House in front of a large crowd of fire fighters and guests on 8 December 2018.
Mr. Dietz, a local business man, has been a member of the CVFD since 1956. He served many years as Chief and for the past 35 years has been the Department’s treasurer.
The National Society of the SAR (NSSAR) describes the following criteria for the presentation of the fire safety commendation and medal:
“The Fire Safety Commendation Medal is presented to an individual for accomplishments and/or outstanding contributions in an area of fire safety and service. The award is not limited to firefighters. It may be presented to recognize a variety of fire safety and service that has evolved into a highly technical and skilled profession with constant study, development and involvement by numerous dedicated citizens with a single goal – protect human life and property by preventing injuries or casualties due to fire and chemicals. The medal may be presented posthumously.”
