It’s not often that a school system hiring somebody is greeted with big smiles by regular people when they hear about it, but that’s what happened when people started hearing that Martha Hicks had come out of retirement and was Northumberland High School’s new assistant principal.
Hicks had resigned from her position with Northumberland schools two years ago after nearly 40 years. Then, she decided she was ready to go back to work, she said Thursday. She had already started looking into education jobs in other school systems when she heard the assistant principal job at Northumberland was open.
