On what turned out to be a more pleasant day than the hot ones preceding it, the farmers market at the Rice Hotel/Hughletts Tavern in Heathsville drew a crowd of vendors and visitors Saturday.
The hotel/tavern’s executive director, Corinne Becker noted that there were several new vendors among the 45 at the market and three farms were there selling their produce, some of which might be hard to find elsewhere. Chesapeake Grown Farm was selling rabbit, duck and duck eggs, not things generally found at supermarkets.
The market’s theme was “Kids’ Day” and at least 100 showed up, Becker said. The woodworking shop had prepared 120 toy wooden boats for the youngsters to assemble and, by the end of the market, only 20 were left. The crafters group had rocks for the youngsters to paint although that didn’t go exactly as planned.
