With the rains this area has gotten over the past month, one would think that the weather would be the number one problem for the Northumberland golf team. It’s not, as golf courses in the area are well drained and groomed. But it is another natural phenomenon; lighting. Their first match had to be stopped prior to completion and then this week the match at the Piankatank course was cancelled due to lightening on Wednesday.
They did get in Monday’s district match at The Golden Eagle with the Indians taking their second straight win of the early season. Scores showed Northumberland with a over the nine holes. Second went to Lancaster with a 365, Essex scored 370 and Rappahannock a 394. The two matches held this season show how close the Northern Neck teams are this year. A two shot victory the previous week and a five shot one this past week. The top three teams were within ten points of each other.
The Indians were led by Patrick Lewis with an 84. He was followed by Chase Fisher with an 85, Matthew Jett with a 95 and Corey Palubinski with a 96. Lancaster’s Colby Sullivan was the medalist with a 68 for nine holes.
