The Northumberland golf team has had a busy two weeks.
On Monday, September 25, they competed in the Northern Neck District tournament at Quinton Oaks, finishing in third place. On Monday the thirtieth they traveled to the Hobbs Hole course for the Region 1A tourney where they put together one of their best rounds this year to take second place and advancing two individual to the state championship in Harrisonburg this week.
In the Northern Neck District Tournament Lancaster and Rappahannock (Warsaw) tied for first place with the score of 327 for the 18 hole match. Lancaster was declared the winner on a sudden death, one hole playoff. Northumberland shot a 339 with Essex shooting a team total of 376. Rappahannock’s Reed Thorne was the medalist with 72. Northumberland’s Brandon Chism finished second with a score of 74. All four teams were eligible to advance to the Region 1A match the next Monday. Individually the Indians scores were Brandon Chism, 74; Patrick Lewis, 81; Corey Palubinski, 84; and Matthew Jett, with a 100.
