Really good weather makes for really good farmers’ markets and the Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern got all it could have wished for Saturday.
With blue skies and the temperature edging toward 80, dozens of people showed up to peruse the goods at the stalls of 40 vendors ranging from a fresh vegetable stand to artwork and jewelry and the Lions Club selling brooms and scrub pads.
The market’s theme was Gone to the Dogs and the Northern Neck Kennel Club provided many informational brochures while more than a dozen people showed off their dogs. The dogs included all three colors of Labrador Retrievers, a Weimaraner and Greyhounds. Several Northern Neck Yellow dogs were at the market but not in the show.
Cyndy Saleski brought the most extreme pair of canines, a tiny Papillon and a massive Tibetan Mastiff. She didn’t say what they weighed but Papillons top out at about nine pounds and Tibetan Mastiffs at 160.
