Over 50 Jr. anglers of all ages participated in the Second Annual Junior Fishing Derby held at Lewisetta Marina.
The derby was split into three divisions according to age group, 6 years of age and under, 7 to 12 and 13 to 16.
Kids were fishing from the shoreline and also the dock and the good news was the fish were biting.
Tournament Director Sarah Harmon was pleased with the turnout and the participation of the kids, parents and volunteers. Free hot dogs and drinks were available to all who were there and the weather cooperated with a perfect day for fishing.
Trophies were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the first two categories and gift certificates to R. W. Sports Bait and Tackle were awarded in the 13 to 16 age group.
A free raffle for the boys and girls divisions produced a new fishing rod and reel to the lucky winners.
Harman said there were several other raffles the tournament was putting on which included a Yeti 65 Cooler, Stihl Weed Eater, and two fishing charter trips.
All the proceeds from the raffles go to support the Junior Angler Tournament.
“It’s a fun time for the kids,” Harmon said. “It really doesn’t matter who wins. It’s all about getting the kids outdoors and doing something.”
