Grand old oyster roast

Northumberland County’s Republicans, joined by Republicans from out of the county, had their annual fundraising oyster roast at Cowarts Seafood near Lottsburg Saturday.

The road leading to Cowarts was festooned with campaign signs ranging from those for the GOP’s statewide ticket to Del. Margaret Ransone. Even candidates who don’t face opposition had signs up and at least one for Sheriff Doc Lyons, who isn’t even running this year.

Inside the oyster house, a table was covered with Republican campaign literature and a number of folks were proudly wearing “Trump is my President” T-shirts. Dozens of people lined the shucking tables and gobbled up 26 bushels of steamed Cowart oysters while those who prefer them raw ate two more bushels outside on the loading dock. The ones not eating circulated in apparent high good humor.
