This Saturday, April 20, will kick off a brand new season for the Farmers Market and Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern Director Corrine Becker has come up with an addition to this year’s festivities. “Make it a Heathsville Saturday” will coincide with the first Farmers Market of the season.
The first market is always the biggest and this year’s Heathsville Day will have more local businesses featured than before.
The Farmers Market always starts at the historic Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in downtown Heathsville and vendors and specialty items of all varieties will be plentiful.
The Historical Society will conduct their usual tour of the historic jail and there are always plenty of things for the children to do. “It’s a nice area for kids, we usually have a lot of real interesting exhibits that kids can enjoy in that area,” Becker said.
There are new vendors every month and this year for opening season they are expecting anywhere from 50 to 60.
This year’s Farmers Market has added a special to their Wine, Brew and Spirits fest this year. This was an event that was usually held on it’s own as a wine fest but has now been added to the Farmers Market. Legal participants will purchase a wine glass and can sample a variety of local wines. This year the event has added a brewery and two local distilleries. “It’s going to be a very spiritual day,” Becker said.
The idea of adding “Make it a Heathsville Saturday” was one Becker came up with and pitched it to other volunteers.
