The Outstanding Virginia Committee, in partnership with the University of Virginia Frank Battan Law School of Leadership and Public Policy, has awarded the prestigious Virginians of the Year Award to Helen Turner Murphy and her husband, The Honorable W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr.
The committee has recognized that Helen and Tayloe Murphy have made an indelible mark on the Commonwealth of Virginia.
“It was a very pleasant surprise,” Murphy said. “We were not expecting it. It has been a real pleasure representing the Northern Neck. It has been home to me from the beginning, I’ve always lived here and I love the Northern Neck,” Murphy said. “I take great pride in it, I think it’s a premier area of Virginia. Its history and its people make such a difference. I have really enjoyed working for the people of the Northern Neck; they were very kind to me in giving me that opportunity and I appreciate it very much.”
