Indian’s golf team takes first match

Posted on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 2:37 pm

While most of the Northumberland High coaching staff are wondering who will play where, the varsity Indian’s golf team has their first win under their belts. Last Wednesday, in a match shortened due to lightening, Northumberland took a win by two strokes at Hobbs Hole. The Indians shot a 133 over seven holes. Essex and Rappahannock both had 135 and Lancaster shot a 137. Lancaster’s Colby Sullivan was the medalist with a 27. Close behind was the Indian’s Patrick Lewis with a 28. Chase Fisher shot a 34, Corey Palubinski a 35, Matthew Jett a 36 and Bailey Lewis a forty.

Once again, while other coaches are putting their teams together, the 2019 Indian team appears to be loaded. With only Brandon Chism graduating and virtually everybody else returning, this year’s team should be great. Chase Fisher, Matthew Jett, Bailey Lewis, Patrick Lewis and Corey Palubinski all featured prominently in the Indians winning the Northern Neck District title and finishing second in the Region 1A tourney. In fact Coach Steve Berman stated “With almost everybody back, we expect to repeat as district champs, win the regional championship and go to state as a team.”
