Indians take down rival at the top

On  the  road  Tuesday,  the  varsity  Indians  baseball   team  took  a second  win from  W&L, 6-2. On Thursday,  in a meeting  between the district’s leading teams, the Indians got the win, 12·2 over Rappahannock at home.

At Montross,  the Eagles scored in their half of the first. Northumberland came  back to tie in the top of the second only to see the Eagles go back by one in the same inning. ‘’We didn’t   hit the ball well,”  explained  Coach  Johnny Mothershead, “We left at least eleven  on base in the first three  innings, including  the bases loaded twice.”

That all changed  in the sixth, Trevor Cantrell singled with one out. Brennon Saunders  laid down a sacrifice  bunt. Mathew Harris and Josh Hinson walked and Jack Jett doubled to drive in three runs. He  scored  on  Brandon  Walker’s  RBI  double.  Jett  was  on  the mound, going six innings, allowing no earned runs while striking out eight. Mathew Harris came on to relieve. Carter Deihl was one for four as was Brandon. Deihl drove in one run, Brandon three and had a double,  Harris was one for two, Jett went three for four with three RBIs and two doubles.

On Thursday, both teams went with their big guns on the mound.
