Lewisetta welcomes Wounded Warriors for fishing tournament

Posted on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 12:00 pm

Lewisetta Marina hosted a unique fishing tournament on December 2 to support the Quantico Injured Military Sportsman Association, or  QIMSA. QIMSA is and organization with a mission to “provide all-encompassing, expense-free outdoor experiences to wounded warriors from all services, regardless of injury or hunting and fishing background. The organization is nationally recognized and is the first outdoors program ever to receive the Bob Hope award. Since its founding, the organization has sponsered over 3,000 hunts nationwide. This is the first time such an event as been held in Lewisetta though similar tournaments have been held in Colonial Beach.

Ten Lewisetta boat captains welcomed 19 wounded warriors aboard their vessels all with hopes of catching the biggest fish. Before heading out at 6 a.m., a captian’s meeting was held in which Delegate Ransome spoke with the warriors and captains and presented them with tokens of appreciation. Senator Rob Wittman could not be present, but plays an active supporting role in QIMSA. Helen and Mark Scerbo, owners of Lewisetta Marina, presented the fisherman with prayer tokens and Jerry “Mushy” Schenemann, organizer of the event, presented gifts to the participants as well. IMG_5460
