She graduated from Norfolk State, receiving a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts and later a master’s degree in art management from George Mason University. Among many big names like Disney and National Geographic, DJ worked for the Smithsonian Institution’s museum shops, creating a retail experience that was aligned with current museum exhibits. She also worked in community outreach for the Washington Ballet’s ballet school, encouraging area children to experience dance as a method of self-discovery.
DJ returned to the Northern Neck in 2000, at one time working as a reporter with the Northern Neck News. She’s currently a middle school art teacher at Richmond County Elementary Middle School in addition to her work at the LIFE School of Art.
