With the start of summer season comes Little League All Star play and the Minor Girls and Guys have completed their tournaments last week end and have chosen their representatives to move on to state level play. The Major Boys kicked off their tourney at the Caroline Little League Complex Saturday.

The two best descriptions for the Northumberland County Minor Guys and Gals were “young” and “inexperienced”. Both guys and gals had players on the younger side of the eight to ten year old brackets, both had only one ten year old.

The guys, playing at the Middlesex Complex lost their first two games, losing 18-1 against King William and 11-1 to King George thus ending their season. Team members for 2019 were Talen Bowis, Jake Brann, Brennan Bray, Jordan Bunn, Trent Dameron, Tripp Garland, Wyatt Gracik, Kamdyn Hayes, Caden Jones, Brack O’Bier, Jacob Smith, Caleb Timberlake and Brice Woolard.  Ginny Dameron was manager with coaches Justin Bowis, Allen Garland and Clay Woolard.

Dameron said after the season ended, “The kids had fun, they learned a lot against older teams. It was good.” Bowis stated “I believe we had a young team this year (Mostly nine with some eights). We gained a lot of experience, both players and the coaches. Our pitching improved in the games we played.” Garland commented “We had a young team, only one ten year old. I think the boys learned a lot. I hope they will come back next year.”

The Northumberland Minor Girls, playing their games at the Northumberland Little League Complex were a big surprise,   winning four games and losing two to take third place in their tournament, the highest any minor girl’s team has ever finished.
