Recently installed Commandant David Pere could only describe the Annual Marine yardsale as great.
Each year the league sets up in the parking lot of Banes Upholstery and always has unique and special items for sale. Pere, who took over from former Commandant Jim Hess last month, is excited about his new post.
“It’s great, it’s a great group of people, all dedicated to the Marine Corps and the spirit of the Marine Corps. They all have big hearts and want to contribute to the community and that’s what this is about. We all have big ideas of what we want to do with the money. Northumberland High School has a submersible robotics team and we want to see how we can help, Pere said.”
The Marine Corps League has many organizations they donate to and take great pride in awarding scholarships and helping out needy families.
“We help out families who can’t afford Thanksgiving or Christmas meals. That’s one of the good things we really try to do.”
The Marine Corps has a special project this year to try and take 20 disabled vets out on a chartered fishing event.
“We are going to try and charter several boats to take them out fishing.
