The Merry Point Ferry has re-opened and is back in service after repairs were made to the vessel’s hydraulic pumps.
The Ferry had to be shut down the day after Christmas after the pumps malfunctioned.
The only other time the Ferry was closed was back in July of 2018 when dredging took place over a four-day period and some work had to be postponed due to inclement weather. The Merry Point Ferry is a free ferry service that is operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
It is located on scenic Route 604 Merry Point Road/Ottoman Ferry Road and crosses the Western Branch of the Corrotoman River. The ferry is in operation year-round and runs on Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is closed on Sunday and Monday. The ferry does stop for 30 minutes at midday for lunch.
