By lunch this coming Saturday, a new restaurant will be open in Rice Hotel/Hughlett Tavern in Heathsville. After months of the dealing with bureaucrats that is necessary before an eatery can open, the Tavern and its new restaurateur, Lee Arnest, finally have the necessary licenses to begin operations.
The sooner the better, as far as a number of people who attended a private birthday party that Arnest catered Saturday are concerned. Arnest provided fried oysters and shrimp, crab balls and his own “Oysters Nomini” for the party’s guest, and their comments about the food ran from “Terrific” to “Wonderful.” Earline Walker said, “And next week we’ll be able to get it any time.”
The Hotel/Tavern’s executive director, Corinne Anthony, said Monday that Arnest might be open by Friday night, but he was certain to be open by Saturday to coincide with the first Heathsville Farmers Market of the year. Plus, she said, Arnest will be operating a table with his fare at the market’s wine tasting area.
Anthony said Arnest will be open for lunch Monday through Saturday and for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sundays he will be open for brunch. The menus will have all sorts of seafood, which is Arnest’s specialty…
