Track teams place third in region, do well at state

The two track teams from Northumberland traveled to Radford University this past Friday and Saturday to compete in the Group A State Track and Field Championships. The young ladies took an overall 20th place with twelve points. The guys finished in 28th, scoring six points. But the biggest news came the two weeks before when they went to West Point for the Region A championships. Both of the teams took a surprising third place in some fairly close races for the team championships. The Indians freshman phenom Nia Jones picked up three individual championships and scored 34 1/2 points to be named the Outstanding Female Athlete in Region A.
